[ Who We Are ]

León Barrena Rodríguez & Partners LLP (LBR) was shaped through continuity, institutional responsibility, and long-term participation in Mexico’s economic development. The firm grew out of a generation of professionals who were closely involved in the structuring, financing, regulation, and defense of many of the country’s most relevant industrial, infrastructure, and commercial ventures. Much of that work was carried out with discretion and permanence in mind, forming the experience base and professional culture that defines the firm today.

At the same time, LBR is firmly a product of a new generation. The firm was established by professionals who came of age in a fully integrated North American economy, shaped by the post-NAFTA environment and educated with a natural understanding of cross-border markets, institutions, and regulatory systems. This generational perspective informs how the firm approaches risk, opportunity, and long-term value creation.

From its inception, LBR brought together a distinctive group of founding partners and operating leaders with deep ties to both the public and private sectors. Our team includes professionals educated at Mexico’s leading academic institutions, including ITAM, Universidad Panamericana, and Universidad Anáhuac, complemented by professional training in elite Mexican and U.S. firms. Several partners developed their practice within American Big Law and Finance environments, incorporating international standards of execution, disciplined risk management, and cross-border transactional expertise into the firm’s operating model.

This combination of academic rigor, multinational practice, entrepreneurial initiative, and generational fluency produced a firm designed to accompany institutions through complex decision cycles. LBR was built by professionals accustomed to working within regulated industries, politically sensitive environments, and transactions where legal certainty, credibility, and timing are essential to durable outcomes.

Over time, this foundation matured into a multidisciplinary professional services firm advising a select and diverse portfolio of clients across North America. The firm’s practice evolved around matters that demand patience, coordination, and an integrated understanding of law, policy, finance, and institutional process, often in contexts where continuity and credibility are as critical as technical precision.

Across the U.S.–Mexico corridor, LBR has accompanied corporations, investors, and institutions through regulatory transitions, political cycles, and market realignments. Its role has consistently been to help preserve access, maintain operational stability, and provide institutional certainty at moments when decisions carry lasting consequences. This work reflects experience accumulated steadily over time, through sustained engagement rather than isolated mandates.

The firm’s integrated structure allows strategy, government affairs, and analytical insight to develop in parallel, supporting informed decision-making in complex and sensitive environments. This approach enables clients to remain well-positioned as circumstances evolve, particularly in sectors where regulation, security considerations, and cross-border dynamics intersect.

LBR maintains the discipline and execution standards associated with international practice, while preserving the discretion, proximity, and accountability of a closely held advisory firm. Its relationships with clients are built gradually, grounded in trust, familiarity, and a shared understanding of institutional priorities. Its focus remains consistent: to serve as a reliable institutional partner, operating with rigor, discretion, and a long-term view across borders.

Our Structure

LBR operates through two service lines. Legal practice in Mexico is delivered by Morgans y Asociados S.C., a separately owned Mexican firm, through attorneys licensed in Mexico holding a valid cédula profesional — covering corporate and commercial law, civil and commercial litigation, tax, labour, criminal defence, administrative and regulatory matters, family and succession, and Mexican immigration.

Cross-border advisory is delivered by non-legal professionals and covers private capital and fund formation, corporate finance and transactions, government affairs, regulatory strategy and market access, risk and counterparty diligence, energy and infrastructure, accounting and fiscal administration, and technology enablement. These teams do not practise law in any jurisdiction.

LBR is a group of affiliated firms and companies operating across the United States–Mexico corridor. Each entity within the group operates within the scope of its own professional and regulatory authorisations.

Legal services in Mexico are provided by licensed Mexican attorneys with offices in Mexico City. All Mexican legal work is performed by attorneys duly admitted to practice in Mexico who hold a valid cédula profesional, in compliance with applicable federal and state professional licensing requirements. The Mexican practice concentrates on corporate structuring, foreign investment, cross-border transactions, and regulatory compliance. Where a matter requires analysis of Mexican law or a formal legal opinion, that work is performed and signed by licensed Mexican attorneys of Morgans y Asociados S.C., which is solely responsible for it.

No entity within the LBR group is a law firm in the United States. No partner, employee or affiliate of the group is admitted to practice law in any United States jurisdiction, and the group does not advise on United States federal or state law. Where a matter requires United States legal advice, we identify and coordinate with independent United States counsel selected by the client and separately engaged by, and responsible to, the client. Those firms are solely responsible for the legal advice they provide.

Outside its Mexican legal practice, the group provides non-legal professional services — including strategic consulting, government affairs, and commercial and cross-border transaction advisory — through separate entities that do not practice law in any jurisdiction.
